ARTIST: Sheila Tintera
Sheila resides in Connecticut and her works have been in several one person shows and group exhibitions throughout New England. She won second prize in the Housatonic River Summer 2004 painting competition where her oil painting was on exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge, MA. Her lithographs were chosen for the prestigious International Miniature Print Competition at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Norwalk, Ct, both in 2002 and 2005. She is represented by the Firenze Gallery in New Preston , CT.
Sheila is a painter and printmaker, working primarily in oils on canvas, and printmaking in the techniques of drypoint etching and lithography on stone. Additionally, she does botanical, and other illustration work. Sheila studied fine arts, painting and printmaking with several private instructors, and at Massachusetts College of Art, Silvermine Guild School of Art, Wooster Center for the Arts and Southern CT State University.
Reflecting her deep appreciation for the land and rural life, her subjects most often depict landscapes and elements relating to the natural world. Study and observation of the masters and their works and travels to Europe, as well as a more recently developed passion for painting “plein air” has impacted her style and approach. As drawing has been a lifelong pursuit, it has also been the backbone for all her other mediums, most especially printmaking.
